- A weekly pay period leads to 52 incomes in a year. Per hour workers are typically paid weekly. In some cases these staff members are paid a week in defaults. That is, they tape-record and kip down their time sheets at the end of one week and are spent for that time a week later on. This provides the payroll clerk time to determine spend for these workers
- A bi-weekly (every other week) pay period leads to 26 incomes in a year. Some per hour staff members are paid bi-weekly, and some employed staff members are too.
- A semi-monthly (two times a month) pay period leads to 24 incomes in a year. Generally, employed workers are paid semi-monthly.
- A regular monthly pay period leads to 12 incomes in a year. Nearly all month-to-month pay durations are for employed staff members.
